Documenting Science | Photograph by Roberto Franco // #sponsored by bayerofficial // "I always document things that are misunderstood to share in my community," writes #YourShotPhotographer Roberto Franco. "The main goal is to capture stories that can help people understand what bats actually do in their environment, and for the most part, it is not about being dangerous, nor a threat to humans, but about the role they play ecosystem of the São José Mountain, Brazil." // The challenges of the future are being worked on right now. Like a flight through a galaxy | Photograph by Veronika K. Ko (veronika_k_ko) // #sponsored by bayerofficial //."Meteoroids? A flight through a galaxy? No, I just love to experiment and to create "art" in my kitchen!" writes Your Shot photographer Veronika K. Ko. I took this image, using my imagination, a dragonfly wing, oil, water and a colorful crystal vase, lit behind. The oil drops float above, because oil has a lower density than water. The "rainbow" is caused by reflection, refraction, dispersion of light in water/oil droplets resulting in a spectrum of light. Also, thank the sciences for the magnifying glass and the macro lens! // The challenges of the future are being worked on right now. Abstract Iceland | Photograph by Andro Loria (andro_loria).This isn't an abstract painting—it's an aerial photograph of a glacial river flowing into the sea in Iceland. The Moment | Photograph by Ali Alshamsi (_alshamsi).“I just waited and focused, and was very fast to capture the vulture’s eye in the middle of the other vulture’s beak,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Ali Alshamsi. “I was very luck to capture this special moment.”—“You can’t have a more perfect time to capture a moment then the one you took advantage of here, Ali. I love how the beak of one of the vultures becomes a natural frame that you were able to use for your composition. Great work!” — natgeoyourshot Senior Producer Matt Adams (themattadams)

Watching Tower | Photograph by Husain Alfraid (halfraid).“Maasai Mara keeps surprising me!,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Husain Alfraid. “While watching a lioness on the hunt, a tower of giraffes popped up on the horizon making such a dramatic scene. After a long chase, and heavy rain, we stayed late with the lioness for an unsuccessful hunt because she had three youngsters that blew her cover every time she got closer.”—“Excellent moment! The lioness on the prowl is a nice added layer to this image and I love how there is something to view in the foreground and background. Great composition!” — natgeoyourshot Senior Producer Matt Adams (themattadams)

[ #TBT From November 8, 2017 ] Top Shot: Lost in the Mist | Photograph by Marcin Sobas.#YourShotPhotographer Marcin Sobas captured this moody sunrise landscape in the Pieniny mountains of Poland. “This image feels reminds me of early landscape paintings I have seen hanging in museums,” writes Your Shot Senior Producer Matt Adams. “I love the variety of tones happening here within the fog and how we have some light blues mixed with rooftop colors of the houses below. This image was selected for the Daily Dozen on November 7, 2017.—Top Shot features the photo with the most votes from the previous day’s Daily Dozen, 12 photos chosen by the Your Shot editors from thousands of recent uploads. Our community votes for their favorite photo from the selection, and the Top Shot is showcased on the natgeoyourshot Instagram account.

Beautiful Bird | Photograph by Liz Mockbee.“Emperor penguins are so intriguing to me. They have this curiosity and lack of fear when on land or sea ice where they will walk right up to you to see what you’re all about,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Liz Mockbee. “I hadn’t planned on photographing these guys close up, but when they waddled within an arm’s reach, I went with it and decided to make it an exploration of detail. I couldn’t get enough of this beautiful bird. This guy was perfection, not a feather out of place.”—“The detail is just awesome in this photo Liz. I love that you let the penguin travel slightly outside of the frame so we can really focus on the details on his feathers. It almost feels like the colors are moving, an illusion of sorts, in the feathers. Great work!” — natgeoyourshot Associate Photo Editor Kristen McNicholas (kemcnicholas)
